Dr Catherine Lopes is the first Chief Data and Analytics Officer at Merkle ANZ, a global customer experience management company. She was recently appointed a governing board member for the Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA).
She is the founder and director of four start-ups in the past 10 years;
- Opsdo Analytics; proving specialised advice on data and analytics strategy, machine learning and data science;
- Ada’s Tribe, a community supporting leadership and career development for women in analytics, data science and artificial intelligence (AI);
- Ada’s Zen a small start-up providing consulting services and training on data privacy, governance and cyber security and risk; and
- Co-founder of Sleigh Group a creative resource company that provides cross cultural narratives and expert localisation in the entertainment industry.
She is currently an Advisory Board Member at the Australian National University School of Computing, and the AI, Data and Analytics Networks. She is well sought after as a speaker and commentator.
She is also one of the top 25 Analytics leaders of Australia and a finalist for Women in AI ANZ award. Catherine was former head of Data Strategy and Analytics at MEBank and former head of Enterprise Data and Analytics at AGL Energy where she successfully developed enterprise data and analytics capabilities. She is a mentor for PhD students in the Data Science and AI.
In 2005, Catherine was awarded a doctorate degree in data mining, machine learning and computer science at Monash University where she won the Mollie Holman Doctoral Medal for her PhD thesis, ‘Machine Learning and Time Series Forecasting’.
