Over the past 40 years, Dr Shen has established a highly rewarding academic career in Higher Education.
Since 1984, Shen has taught a number of subjects in economics (macro and micro), business economics, managerial economics, financial markets and institutions, commercial bank management, accounting systems and processes, international business, organizational behaviours and cross-cultural communications at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the position of Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor and Professor in a number of universities such as La Trobe University, Monash University, Melbourne University, Federation University (former Ballarat University), Australia, Trinity Western University Canada and City University Malaysia. He acted as the Head of First-Year Undergraduate Programs and the Head of MBA Programs at Federation University from 2000-2009.
Shen completed my Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature in 1974, Peking University, Master of Arts in Economics in 1987, La Trobe University and PhD degree in Finance from Federation University in 2008. His PhD thesis is entitled “The Determinants of Capital Structure of Chinese Listed Companies, 1990-2000”. He published a book on the capital structure of Chinese companies in 2010 and a number of articles over the years. He supervised 2 PhD students and 8 Master's students with successful completion.
Since 1998, Shen has served as Director for China Programs and Deputy Director of the International Office, at Federation University, Ballarat, Australia; Associate Dean of International at the Faculty of Education and Communications and Dean of International Office at Edith Cowan University, Perth, Australia; Vice President of International Education, Guangdong Baiyun University, Guangzhou, China; Director of International Education, China Education Group, Hong Kong, China; and Vice President of Partnership and Marketing, King’s Own Institute, Sydney, Australia.
In those positions, Shen served on a number of university committees such as the Students Engagement Committee, Teaching and Learning Committee, Vice-Chancellor’s Executive Committee, and Academic Board.
